Ake Jonsson on Maico and Belgian Roger DeCoster on Suzuki in a cut-throat fight that turned in favour of the Swedish. But his victory was tainted by rumors of cheating, he would have changed bikes between the 2 heats. However the F.I.M. jury declared him the winner. De Coster will be crowned world champion by the end of the season amotorascheiasdechao.blogspot.com/

in 1982 in europe with the GP regulars Magoo holeshots from the outside into the first turn with several bike length lead yea you gotta put that guy in the Hall of Fame -Danny Magoo Chandler -nobody else ever did that the 500 2 stroke freight trains
Wasn’t this supposed to be ‘73 yam mxgp
Jimmy Ellis wins... on a Can-Am? Chased by a CZ! At the time, my personal dirt bike was a Steen, which had a Hodaka engine. I remember reading about these early Supercross races, though I don't think I saw one on TV before about 1980 or so, but it was obviously a good way to present motocross to a crowd of spectators.
I loved Tony D, had to get the blue and yellow Full House race pants like his too. One of my motocross heroes of the 70's.
Great vid.thank you for publishing…

12:15 That was Bob Hannah, being honest but not as brutal as saying, "I am racing against a bunch of lazy guys." I notice the next interview With Jimmy Weinert at min 13:05: "I am very healthy, and working a lot harder this year. Going after Bob Hannah." :)
The good old days when I was a kid.
RIP Jeff!!!🙏🏼
I was there as a teen so cool way better than todays supercross
Bikes in those days would have handled like shit.😅
IIRC, Marty Smith was on a 125cc bike in the 250cc class.
Very Cool! Thanx for posting this!!!
How this is true motorcross racing people!! These guys took a shit kicking!! These guy wore kidny belts just to holed there guts in place!
Yea, 60 years old, and I can't find a good kidney belt anymore. :)
Enjoy your time on earth because life is very short !

👀 this ain't your grandaddy 4strokes like they racing today 😅
I can only imagine if this man had today's equipment 👍 what a man.
Meanwhile that day my other Belgium hero was winning a bicycle race...Eddy Merckx.
Awesome footage ❤it all
I can’t watch this out of focus fuzzy crap.
Too bad. You missed some great racing not to be seen anymore on our new "tracks of equality" that keep everybody the same speed as much as possible. How come you kids never complain about cell phone audio and connection quality? It is terrible. You never had a land line phone, (or its privacy). Hannah, the dominant guy of 76-79, (Before he broke his leg in a water skiing accident,---with Tripes driving the boat, long rope I hear, in a unknown river they never skied in), was never able to win Daytona. That was weird.
Hannah, Glover, Bell were the best riders for team Yamaha 😅
Marty Smith
Pure Gold! Being able to see Bob Hannah race when he was at his absolute peak is getting a glimpse of true brilliance. So many great riders, my childhood hero’s.
Awesome
No offense to the super technology of the bikes today, but those old bikes were by far the best. You raced the course as well as the limitations of the bike at the same time.
i was there great day's take's me back to my youth i only live about 15 to 20 mile's away
this is the best coverage of a pro motocross that exists as far as I have seen. It is really a moment in time.
a great champion and a better man ! thank you Andre RIP
I have a 79 YZ250 it's a dinosaur but it's my dinosaur
I had the 1979 YZ125. That was back with a kid making $1.00/hr at a part time job at the age of 12 could afford to buy a brand new MX bike every 2 years, (until the 1986 production rule, which tripled the cost of a bike in 5 years). It was a left over, 9but new) as the 1980's just hit the showroom floors, but that bike only cost me $850, the highest price I paid so far for my 3rd dirt bike, (1978 YZ100 was $800 retail. 76 Kawasaki KD125 was $750). We can call your bike a "dinosaur", but that was the best era of MX in the USA by far, (all the developments with little cost hike till the 1986 rule), and we both know,---you still have just as much fun if not more, not on a $10,000 bike, but that easy to work on dinosaur. :)
My 79 YZ was my dream bike in high school by the time I got one I was probably 40 years old I also have a 1981 it 465
Also reminds me of Doug Democus.
Awesome!
suspension was the biggest improvement on a dirt bike. go look at 1985, then 1995. the jumps keep getting higher and higher. yeah in 75 dirt bike felt like bricks.
I was there, I remember seeing Rex Staten eat shit right in front of us, my dad was good friends with Rex, we were from Fontana. Jim Fishback speedway racer was crazy too! A lot of talent came out of the Inland Empire area!
I was so much faster than these guys... no jokes, at aged 12 too
Rip Remy julienne
I was 12 years old 3 years later went from a QA 50 to a Mt 250. Dam fukin 40 years blew by. it was awesome 👏👏😀😀

Marty Smith, famous last words.
Willy Suratt, father of Ryan? I had already quit riding and being a CMC weekend warrior at Carlsbad and Saddleback by 1980 but still followed the outdoor series but now after the new designated super motocross format I think I'll reluctantly close the book on my interest in motocross. Watching this stuff is more up my alley and I'll just indulge in the past and the sweet sounds of two strokes
